Outlook 2003 connecting to Exchange 2003 server

I have the following environment:

- Windows 2000 Advanced Server SP4 running Exchange 2003 SP1

- Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition w/ Office 2003

This morning I was running a Windows 2000 Server w/ Office 2003 and Outlook
connectivity to the Exchange server worked just peachy. I was having some
OS-related issues and had been wanting to reload my admin station anyway, so
when I reloaded it I put Windows Server 2003 (not SBS version) on.

Now every time I click on a folder I'm waiting for Outlook to update the
folder. In the lower right when I first connected it would say "Updating
Inbox..." then "Updating folder1...." then "Updating folder2..." etc. It
took 20 minutes to go through all my folders and all my messages. It's
starting to be pretty aggravating having to wait for a folder that has 6,000
messages to "update" so I can see all the messages, when previously it would
take a matter of seconds to display the messages.

I keep getting the "Outlook is trying to retrieve data from the Microsoft
Exchange Server" messages down in the status tray.

For example after clicking on my Sent Items folder (which has thousands of
messages in it) I had to wait 3 minutes for any of my Sent Items to start
displaying. It took almost 15 minutes for all of them to show up.

I didn't have this problem when I first installed Office 2003 on my Windows
2000 server so I'm hoping there may be a setting somewhere in Outlook that I
can tweak. My connectivity to the Exchange server is fine (I just copied a
235MB file off of it at 5MB/sec) and other clients are connecting fine. If
I can't resolve it, I'll cry (or go back to Outlook 2000).

Thanks in advance.

Joe

Are you using Cached Exchange mode? Are you downloading full items, headers
only, or headers followed by full item?

====================

I really don't know. I'm doing whatever Outlook 2003 decided to do by
default on this installation.

That was it. Found Cached Exchange mode setting and turned it off and I
will be crying no more. Thanks a ton.
