Outlook 2003: change page width for new mesage

Last night, when I launched Outlook 2003, I got an error message about a
"delayed write" that failed and the data was lost. When Outlook opened,
everything looked fine, but when I opened a file to compose a new e-mail, the
page width was 13 inches!! I am using Word2003 as my e-mail editor. Page
Set-up indicated a standard letter size paper in portrait mode. All attempts
to change this to a more reasonable width (6-7 inches) have failed. How can
I "fix" this?? There must be a template or default e-mail form somewhere
that sets this width; I'd like to find out where it is and how to modify it.
I "repaired" the installation of MS Office Professional through Control Panel
and that has not fixed the problem. I have not tried an uninstall/reinstall.
Any suggestions short of that would be appreciated. [[o]]

If by opening a file you mean you are using Word, outside of OL, to write a
msg, then using the send to option
try searching for & deleting all instances of normal.dot (with word closed)

Thanks for your reply. By "opening a file to compose a new message", I meant
doing this entirely within Outlook, ie, File / New / Mail Message (or Control
+ n). I am using MSWord2003 as my e-mail editor and viewer. Should I
confirm that none of the normal.dot files are set up in landscape mode?? I
do have a template I created years ago that's called landscape.dot that I've
used since 2001; it has never "interfered" with outlook before.

I'll check out normal.dot. Do you think Outlook uses that file as the
template for the e-mail messages when it is in "webview"??

I copied a file called mail.oft from my laptop; that is a mail template for
Outlook. That did not fix the problem. I also remounted my backup copy of my
pst files from last week when I didn't have this issue, but that didn't fix
the problem either. I reopened "sent" mail from a couple of days ago, and it
now displays them with a 13" page width. To me, that means the problem code
that is directing this display is not in the messages themselves, not in the
OFT template file either. I must be in some other auxiliary file or in the
main software itself.

Thanks again. njmeatball 20080414 wkrp

1. are you storing the pst on a network or removable drive? That is not
supported

2. how does page width fit into email'd messages? It's only used for
printing.
