outlook 2003 can't access new mail failing to update

I installed new virus protection-AVG and ran into multiple headers for the
same email, reading "spam". Send/receive started running very slow then got
message 'failed to update headers" .The headers are showing up in my new mail
list but I can't open them.

Everything else in outlook is running fine-calendar,contacts,archives etc.
It's just something in the receiving new mail.

I've removed all traces of old Norton and new Avg. That didn't correct the
problem-I must have really messed up the mail in outlook. Can I clear it out?
Reinstall?
Thanks
DPete

A reinstall isn't likely to help. Were I in your shoes, I'd start with a
new mail profile.

Someone else set up my outlook so I'm a bit clueless on how to do this-I
found the new profile info but am hesitant to mess with it. Should I remove
the old profile that goes with the corrupted email account before setting up
the new one? I have two email accounts and only one -of course the one I get
all my mail on-is the messed up one! Thanks so much for your help!!!!

It works !!-I set up new profile and now get my emails in outlook but all the
old files I set up to store my emails, are not showing. How do I move them to
the "new" account?

Thank you thank you

That article should also have told you how to attach your existing PST to
the new profile so that you had all your old data.

Open the old data with File>Open>Outlook Data File. After you've added the
PST to the current profile, your old folders will appear in the Folder List
view. Open each of the old folders, select all the items with CTRL-A, then
click Edit>Copy to Folder and select the appropriate new folder as the
destination. For the old Calendar, folder, you'll have to change the view
to a table view like By Category in order for CTRL-A to work. When you're
finished copying the data, right-click the root of the old PST and choose
Close to remove it from the mail profile again.
