Outlook 2003 Archival - pst files to server

Hello,

I have auto archive set on all users desktops on my LAN.

I can not rely on the users to archive, or to save that file to their users
folder. So I have all outlook 2003 on the LAN to run every 14 days, archive
or delete mail greater than 6 months.

For people that need mail greater than 6 months, I save the archive.pst file
to a local server of mine this way it gets backed up nightly. I know this is
not supported by MS as there can be corruption in the file, but ----- I
really have no choice, it can not stay on their desktop (no backup), and for
them to move the file to their users folder ---- sure.....

I really want to setup a network/mailbox archival system, but now $$ is an
issue.

Anyone have other suggestions to get that archive.pst file backed up other
than what I'm going ? without ---- relying on the users.

Actually, that's the way we do it too. I think your risk of corruption in
the PST file is pretty low if it's merely an archive file.

If you're really concerned about it you could have it archive to a local
..PST file on their C: drive and then use a scheduled task or login script
that copies the file to the server in the background automatically on some
sort of schedule.

Which mail account type are you using?
Which mail server is involved here? Is it a local server?
If you are saving the data back to the network anyway, why not increase
their mailboxes?

Robert ---- we run Exchange Enterprise 2003, it is a local server.
The archive.pst files are stored to a server with large disk capacity (not
back to the exchange server), to keep the users mailboxes under lock and key.
if not ---- people here will keep their email forever. There is no problem
in reguards to increasing their mailbox size, but to keep it under control.
