Outlook 2003 and Vista

M

Mark Krause

I am frustrated by my inability to get Outlook 2003 to work on my new
computer. I have tried so many things and read many of these community
postings. When I try to open Outlook, either with or without BCM, it says it
has an external error. When I try to open (through File/Open) my archive
file from my old computer, it says the program must shut down. Does anyone
have any suggestions? I am out of ideas to try. Yes I tried unistalling and
re-installing. I also tried repair. I have loaded Service packs 1-4.

You asked this once already and were answered 33 minutes before you posted
it again.

M

Mark Krause

When I am asked if I want to open using BCM, I say no and I get a "unknown
external error". If I say yes I get "unknown external error".

M

Mark Krause

I am sorry but I never did see your repsonse to my inquiry. Is it possible
for you to send it again?

M

Mark Krause

I went back and did find your original response. Sorry. I tried the
suggestion but still get the same "unknown external error".

D

Diane Poremsky [MVP]

At start menu, Run, type
outlook.exe /safe

If Outlook runs ok then the problem is a config file or add-in.

Boot the PC into Safe Mode, retest outlook.
If it functions, then a background app/process is causing the problem -
Anti
Virus or other scanning software?

Mark Krause said:
Yes I did try that the other day as well, but got the same results.

Tried a new Outlook Profile yet? (Do not copy the Profile)

Tried that too but I still get the "unable to complete this
operation
due
to
unknown external error.

You may have to use the full path in the run command
"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office11\Outlook.exe " /safe

Amend as appropriate

message
Thanks for the attempt. I did add the space this time.
Unfortunately
I
still get the unknown external error message. Next idea, please.

spelling
which
is
right so now what? Thanks

:

At start menu, Run, type
outlook.exe /safe

If Outlook runs ok then the problem is a config file or
add-in.

I am frustrated by my inability to get Outlook 2003 to
work
on
my
new
computer. I have tried so many things and read many
of
these
community
postings. When I try to open Outlook, either with or
without
BCM,
it
says
it
has an external error. When I try to open (through
File/Open)
my
archive
file from my old computer, it says the program must
shut
down.
Does
anyone
have any suggestions? I am out of ideas to try. Yes
I
tried
unistalling
and
re-installing. I also tried repair. I have loaded
Service
packs
1-4.

Sorry for the dealy in response. I was away for the week. So the only item
under the advanced add-in tab is "Exchange Extensions Property Pages". Do I
assume that I should turn that off? Thanks again for the assistance.
