Outlook 2002

I am trying to download a ton of messages (about 4000) from my web mail to
outlook 2002, and trying to REMOVE them from the server. The first 1500 or
so worked fine. Then it stopped and started again. It keeps doing that, and
now I have duplicates, triplicates, etc.

Two questions:
1 - is there a limit? it keeps telling me that I am out of resources in
Outlook, and it's the only thing I have running on a brand new machine with
tons of empty hard drive space and 2GB of RAM. I rebooted, and it continues
to give me that message.

2 - is there an automated way to remove duplicates?

Outlook has no limit. If you have an anti-virus program scanning your
incoming messages, try disabling it. Increase your server timeout value on
the Advanced tab of your account properties. The system resources in the
message do not refer to RAM or hard drive space.

With a third-party duplicate remover.
http://www.slipstick.com/addins/mail.htm#dupes lists some, including a free
one.

Brian, thank you for your help! I increased the server timeout to 30 min, it
took about 15 min to download the 1298 message that seem to be stuck on the
server. it downloaded them all again, and then gave the error
"(0x8007000E):'Out of memory or system resources. Close some windows or
programs and try again.'

What resources do you think it could be low on? I had only one IE window
open. last time I had none open.

I purchased the sperry software after finding it on another thread, thanks
for the recommendation on that. I will run it once this thing stops
downloading dups...

thanks again if you have any additional insight?

There are in-memory data structures that can get used up and I don't think
the limit is adjustable. If I were in your shoes and I could access my
mailbox with a web interface, I'd create a second folder on the server, move
all the messages in the server's Inbox to the second folder (deleting the
ones Outlook had alreday downloaded), and then copy them back to the Inbox
in a controlled manner, say 500 at a time, letting Outlook download one
batch before moving the next batch.

hmmm...yea, I thought about that, but was hoping to avoid it. It'll be time
consuming, I can only move them 100 at a time, but worth a shot!

Thanks again for your help, blessings!
