Does anybody have an answer to why when I send a message
in Outlook 2002 SP3 many duplicate messages are sent? I
sent a message to a consultant and filled his mailbox
unknowingly with many copies of the same message. The
message I am trying to send does not leave my outbox.
Does anybody have any thoughts on what to do?

Thanks in advance.

We're investigating this and haven't been able to reproduce this in-house so
far (we're still trying). Some questions: Are the messages that this
happens to large? Do you have any anti-virus software set to scan outgoing
mail?

I am having the same problem -- I am running Norton
AntiVirus, but have been running it for years now without
having any problems. When this happens I sometimes get an
error message that my server connection was interrupted,
but in reality the email was sent and no one else on my
network is having this problem! (e-mail address removed)

same here, and recieve duplicates as well, mostlt wheen outlook is minimised
and the envelope appears in tray. then maximise and outlook has message,
then retrieves dupe

Sorry I didn't get back to you more quickly. I do use Mcafee VirusScan, which was set to scan email for viruses. I have turned off the scanning of email and I am still having the same problem. What I have noticed is that it usually only happens if there is an attachment to the message. It also seems to be random because sometimes I can send messages with attachments. It also doesn't seem to matter how big the attachement is.

Thanks for your help

Sincerely
Crai

I have also encountered a similar problem twice. Both times it has happened when I was sending emails with a larger attachment (over 1mb). Each time the message sent successfully, but stayed in my outbox and continued to resend.

I am using Outlook 2003 (11.5608.5703) and am running on Windows XP Pro (5.1.2600 Service Pack 1 Build 2600).

I run McAfee VirusScan with "scan email and attachments" set, but have done this for a number of years and have not had these problems, even when I used to use Outlook Express (I've only been using Outlook for a few months now).

Yes, yes and yes. It's Outlook 2003, happens with large attachments (which are not over the limit of the ISP), and it's repeatable.

I have messed with disabling McAfee, and playing with Outlook setting to no avail. I asked our ISP (Cox.net) and they said they don't support Outlook 2003 -- or Outlook for that matter. Only Outlook Express. I haven't tried switching to OE to test that theory. However, I have heard of too many people with the same problem, all running Outlook 2003

One of my employees and I have been battling this issue as well. While we have also not found a cause, we do have some semblance of a solution that works for us. By not sending emails in excess of 360 at a time, we dont seem to get the duplication issue. She noticed that if she sent more than that, messages would simply stay in the outbox and resend themselves repeatedly. Limiting the number seemed to help with that. I realize that this may not be helpful to you for your situation but hopefully it will guide you in your troubleshooting.

Tools -> E-mail Accounts -> View or change existing e-mail accounts ->
Double Click your e-mail accounts -> On Advanced tab -> set Server Timeout
to 10 mins
