Outlook 2002 - sending email

I am unable to send emails allthough have no problem receiving them. When I
send a test email I get an error message saying :-

The specified server was found, but there was no response from the server.
Please verify that the port and SSL info is correct.

I have not changed these settings and all was ok up to a couple of days ago

If you go to start - run - telnet <name of your smtp server> 25, what
happens?
