Outlook 2002 hangs retrieving email

When I first start Outlook2002 on my Dell XP Pro laptop,
Ourlook will hang when retrieving email. After restarting
outlook twice, once in Safe Mode, it works fine. Thoughout
the day it hangs periodically when retriving messages. Any
ideas? Please help!
