Outlook 2002 hangs on outgoing message

Recently shut down an earthlink account. Precisely as I was sending a message
to multiple recipients, earthlink began shutting down the service. Outlook
will no longer work at all. It attempts to continue sending the same message
after sending it 25 times to first few recipients, and will keep prompting
Outlook to attempt to re-send. I changed recipient to my other acct instead
of friends, deleted body of message, and it doesn't help. I already
reconfigured Outlook with my new email address and password, but it will not
work. I cannot delete message, nor can I delete anything in the inbox. The
problem has disabled my delete function completely.
Any suggestions?

Try File, Work Offline, delete everything in the Outbox. Then uncheck Work
Offline.

Tried it. Still get the same error message: "The messaging interface has
returned an unknown error. If the problem persists, restart Outlook." It's
the same message I get when I try to delete anything in the Inbox or the
Outbox.

Naturally, I did as it said, but it does not change a thing. I've never had
that message before. Any other ideas?

Try running Help > Detect and Repair

Ran Detect and Repair several times, to no avail. I tried disconnecting from
the router and that didn't help, either. Tried working offline, no help. I've
done everything I know except to uninstall and reinstall Office. I'll keep
trying. Thanks for the suggestions so far. If anyone has another, please feel
