Outlook 2000 very slow

In recent days my Outlook 2000 has been slow to open, very slow to change
folders and extremely slow when typing a reply to HTML emails. I am running
Win XP HE.

I have read through the similar posts. Running Cleanup and Defrag returned
me to normal speed for one day. The next day I was back to very slow! So I
tried Cleanup again - no joy. So against logic, I Defraged even though the
disk was not fragmented. Same result - Outlook had normal speed for one day.
However, I am now back to very slow and Cleanup or Defrag no longer have a
magic charm!

I have run scanpst.exe - only minor problems reported but fixed them. I
have deleted all unnecessary folders and entries with no effect.

I have run out of ideas. Can anyone suggest the next step. I read
somewhere that KB931768 could cause a problem, certainly my problems started
about that time. I have noticed that when you change folders Outlook takes
99% of the CPU, I do not know if that is normal.

Problem solved. I have uninstalled KB931768 and Outlook 2000 is back to
normal. I run Spybot - Search & Destroy which, from other posts, may be
significant.

Although most of the discussion concerns the very slow typing in HTML, it
also appears to be relevant to my general slow Outlook problem.

I have reinstalled KB931768 and am using the following work around covered
in the above posts.

Open Outlook (still slow), go Tools/Options/Security, click OK and if my
magic Outlook is back to normal speed, unless you close it and open it again,
so I leave it open.

I hope this helps others with the same problem.
