Outlook 2000 Question: Doing Weird Things

A

Atreju

I am using Outlook 2000.

There seem to be two things that are working a bit weird.

Firstly, if I go into a contact's details, there's a little button
next to the e-mail field. If I click it, it brings up what appears to
be the old Outlook Express Contacts window.

Also this window comes up if I am in an e-mail composition window and
I click on one of the address lookup buttons (To:, CC:, or BCC:)

Does Outlook separate Contacts and Addresses into two separate
redundant systems?

Here is a URL of some screenshots I took to better explain what I am
talking about. Since I don't know if binaries are appreciated on this
group, just click here:

Thanks people.

You did not post your mail support mode. If it is Internet Mail Only, then
Outlook uses the WAB engine (the same as OE uses) to display your Contacts.
So this would be expected behavior.

Yes, I'm using internet mail only.
So for e-mail sending it uses Windows Address Book only?
Is there any way to get it to use the Contacts database to lookup
addresses?

It seems ludicrous to me for the Contact management system in Outlook
to have a field for e-mail address when you cannot even lookup by
that! What's the point? Is it there for reference purposes only?

"Expected Behavior" apparently means that it simply was not completely
designed.

Thanks for the info.

1) The address book you see when hitting the To button is a virtual address
book that displays your contacts.

2) Apparently something is wrong with your installation, causing the error
you see (but never mentioned in your post). Have you tried detect and repair
(or reinstalling)?

No. It uses the Windows Address Book _engine_ but your Outlook Contacts
Folder as the data source. You have not explained clearly the problem you
are having finding your Contacts. Make sure you are displaying your default
Contacts Folder when you bring up the Address Book.
