Outlook 2000 problem after briefly using 2003

I have been using Outlook 200 for smoe time. It's set up so that
several users share a .pst file. The users have roaming profiles and
can access email from any machine on the network (Server 2003).
Recently, one user accessed his email from a new machine which had
Outlook 2003 installed. Everything worked fine on that machine but now
this user has problems form a machine with Outlook 2000. All emails
can be seen but the user can't send or receive any new emails. We
don't really want to convert to Outlook 2003 so how can I restore the
user's ability to send and receive emails?

Thanks

Note - users can't really share a PST file, at least not simultaneously.
Also note - storing a PST file on a network share & accessing it across the
network is not supported by Microsoft and will very likely lead to data
corruption, as well as performance problems.
And - best to keep everyone on the same version of Office, especially if
you're using roaming profiles.

That said - what errors does this user get?

You're correct, we can't share the pst file simultaneously. It's never
been a problem. I've not noticed performance problems and we've never
had data corruption. It is a very small installation. Up to this
recent event, we've used Office 2000 for all users. We will ensure
that all users stick with 2000 or else we'll upgrade all users to 2003
but the latter is not a preferred option (at this stage).

The "error" is simply that the user can't send or receive emails. He
can write them and click "Send". Outlook then says "Mail delivery
complete" in the bottom RH corner and the envelopes do their little
dance but the email stays in the Outbox.

We connect to our email using POP3 on an ADSL connection.

Just a follow-up - the user never sees the message "Connecting to
server" in the bottom RH corner. Other users see this prior to seeing
the "Mail delivery complete" message.
