Outlook 2000 - Document Owner Email Reply Question

MHenry

Hi,

I ran into an issue using the reply feature in the email function of
Outlook 2000 when replying to certain messages.

1. View message in preview pane
2. Open message
3. Press reply button on toolbar (received message quoted in new reply
message)
4. Place cursor at the head of the first line of text in the new
message (where caret appears on line below)
-----Original Message-----
5. Press the enter key

Intermittently, and perhaps only with certain messages, the name of an
old user appears in brackets. The user has not used the account in
years and is no longer listed as a user under Outlook Accounts. These
are new messages and have nothing to do with the old user.

It looks like this (name changed to protect the innocent).

[Betty Boop] -----Original Message-----

This is reminiscent of the document ownership feature of Word.

It does not always happen, even with the same message (I opened,
closed and retried with several messages as an experiment).

The Outlook settings on this computer use no signatures or stationary.
Emails are sent using plain text and word is not used as the email
editor.

I hunted around for a setting by which I could change or delete this,
but could not find one.

I would appreciate it if someone would instruct me how to change or
delete this function.

Thanks,
MHenry

Look under Tools->Options->E-Mail Options, At the bottom, is "Mark my
comments" ticked?

Hi, Milly,

Thanks for your reply.
The "Mark my Comments" box is grayed out and contains only a caret.
However, I can make it open by selecting a different option in the
"When replying to a message" or the "When forwarding a message" box.
In that case, it is no longer grayed out, and the caret shows.

Currently the "When replying to a message" box contains "Include and
Indent Original Message Text" and the "When forwarding a message" box
contains Include Original Message Text."

Note that [Betty Boop] does not appear in the original message when
the new message containing the original text opens. It only appears
when I press enter at the head of the first line, and only
intermittently.

One further thought.

I opened Outlook Express and found this old user still listed.
I deleted that user from Outlook Express, but I did not see anything
that could be related to this isse.

Can Outlook get information from Outlook Express when Outlook Express
is not open?

Thanks,
MHenry
