outlook 2000/2003 hangs opening messages

I have a user whose Outlook 2000 client hangs (for minutes on end) when
attempting to open a message (tested on more than one message). In
attempting to resolve this issue, I've upgraded his office installation to
Office 2003, unselected all the com-add ins and add-ins, enabled and
disabled using word as the email editor, all to no avail.

His mail is stored on the server. He can access his mailbox using either OWA
from his system or a standard Outlook mail profile on another pc and open
the same messages with no issue. Only on his pc do I have the problem.

Any suggestions??

Did you look at his antivirus settings for scanning email?
