I have just had to reinstall Win XP and reactivate Outlook 2003. When I go to
enter up my own email settings etc I get this message "The Operation failed
due to a registry problem. Restart Outlook and try again. If this problem
persists please reinstall".

Have tried reinstalling/repair but this does not solve the problem.
Currently have to use Outlook Express. Lost all my contacts too - how do I
get these back?

Thanks for any assistance with this.

By reinstall WinXP do you mean clean install or repair install and was
Outlook origonally installed in C?

Yes A clean Windows install with Outlook originally on. I think PST files
saved in My documents which would have been wiped on Win install. So now I
cant use Outlook as it wont allow me to setup because of that message

If you clean installed all data would have been destroyed
After installing win you did update your drivers from manufacturers sites
are driver cd's?
I dont quite understand the registry problem msg, maybe insert your Office
cd and select the repair option, once completed & rebooted use the mail
applet in the control panel to configure outlook

Thanks DL. Solved by uninstalling Outlook, and reinstalling it, repair did
not work.

Hey TONY,

Even I was getting the same error.. "The operation failed due to a registry
or installation problem. Restart outlook and try again. If the problem
persists, please reinstall." I uninstalled and reinstalled the MS Office and
it fixed it.. Thanks! :-)

Cheers,
Abdul Kadir
