Outlining

Hi,
I want to use the outlining view to promote and demote the outline level
of text , without adding any heading formatting. I would also like to make
those outline level changes using keyboard shortcut keys. (I really dislike
the headings for my current paper and wish that I could turn them off for
this particular document. Is that possible?)
So far, when I when I try to promote and demote the outline levels, the
heading changes too.
I know I can turn off the formatting (using the AA button) but I do need
to add formatting.
Please advise.

By default outlining uses the heading styles 1-9. You can format each of
these styles to give you the appearance that you want at that heading level.

Mayor, thanks for your answer. I was able to figure out a way to outline
using only the outline levels last night.

First, I opened the document in Outline view and selected all the text
(ctrl-A). then I selected the Normal style, and the Outline Level 1. Doing
this transformed all the text to the Normal style and the Outline level 1.
Now, when I promote or demote, it only changes the outline level, not the
style (so my text doesn't change to a heading style).

What's also great is that I can add my own formatting too (like bold and
underline).

I thank God for this breakthrough. It'll make a big difference in preparing
my outline for my law school exams.
