outline view stopped displaying correctly

I'm using Office 2003. I was working in a document in outline view and
the minus sign on the keypad wasn't working. I checked the num lock key
and it was on. I tried toggling the num lock and typing the minus sign
and it wasn't working. I wanted to see if it was a bad minus key or
another problem and tried the other keys with num lock on and off
(slash, star, etc.). In the course of this testing, the formatting
display for the document disappeared (it appeared as plain text). I
closed the file without saving; re-opened and had the same problem. I
tried re-booting and that didn't help either.

Now when I look at an existing file or create a new file, in outline
view it appears as plain text even though the style box shows a heading
style. When I switch to normal view I can see the formatting (bold,
font size changes, etc.). I sent a test file to a friend and it
displays the outline view as expected.

So this seems to be just a display issue. Before I go hunting for the
CDs to re-install, does anyone have any other suggested fixes?

TIA,
--Charlene

Problem solved. Figuring I had nothing to lose, I tried recreating the
problem and discovered that the slash apparently turns the formating
display on and off.

Are you sure you haven't simply clicked the Show Formatting button (A/A) on
the Outlining Toolbar?
