Outbox and Sent Items

WinXP (SP2) and Office PRO 2003 including OL2003. I have a user with several
items in his Outbox that can not be deleted and have not been sent to the
Sent Items folder. Many of the Outbox items have not been sent and I am not
able to delete them. Whenever I try to do so, I get a message that reads
"One or more messages could not be deleted".
Does anyone have insight into the issue? The support site has not been much
help.

try this:
File> work offline, close Outlook, and then reopen
Highlight the messages you want to delete and then close Outlook and reopen
online
