Outbound Problems

For the past few days I've been getting the following error when sending a
new message:

Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for
this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of
inactivity. Subject 'Testing 1 2 3', Account: '(e-mail address removed) Mail
Account', Server: 'smtpauth.earthlink.net', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 587,
Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x800CCC0F

I can't image that Earthlink has been down for the past few days. I call and
check. Any way to diagnose?

Regards,
Lux

Well,
Problem is, it was working, now it's not. I disabled firewall, anti-virus,
and spyware software, and it's still does not work.

I decided to try Mozilla Thunderbird. Used same email setup for pop and smtp
and guess what? Works like a charm - go figure...

If you were running McAfee or Norton antivirus, disabling is often not
sufficient for compatibility with Windows Mail. The antivirus program
would need to be uninstalled completely.
