My computer, an acer notebook was working fine and then at startup
wants to install a fax ...? using windows installer. I try to cancel
it and it starts right back. After several times it stoppes but it
limits my printing capabilities.

To finisn installing the fax it request a Fax disk in the CD drive.
How can I fix this. I have windows XP Home edition V2002 with SP2

Forgot to tell that I don't have a fax, nor a fax option, nor anything
related with fax. I have been using the notebook without any problems
until now with this fax issue.

What new software did you install before the problem first started?

Hope this helps.

Remove them one at a time until the problem goes away.

Start with Norton (and probably end there).

Check also "Printers & Faxes" screen. Is there fax device there? If so,
delete it.

Skype seems to be the one you should investigate:

There would appear to be a number of possible reasons for your error.

Is there an Error Report in Event Viewer?

You can access Event Viewer by selecting Start, Control Panel,
Administrative Tools, and Event Viewer.

A tip for posting copies of Error Reports! Run Event Viewer and double
click on the error you want to copy. In the window, which appears is a
button resembling two pages. Click the button and close Event
Viewer. Now start your message (email) and do a paste into the body of
the message. Make sure this is the first paste after exiting from
Event Viewer.
