When I power up I get an information window which says Out of Scan
Range. Do you know where I start looking or what to do?

I think the error message is telling you your monitors scan rate frequency
is too high. What video card and monitor do you have? You could try simply
lowering the refresh rate (Control Panel > Display > Settings > Advanced >
Monitor) or undate the drivers but I think you might need help from tech
support for your video card.

Does this message come up as soon as you power on the computer, and
then goes away after a few seconds?

Or does it come up after the computer has started to load Windows,
after the opening Windows XP logo screen is displayed?

If it comes up at power on and then goes away there is probably
nothing to worry about. What is happening is that the monitor is
powering on faster than the PC and it is reacting to the lack of
usable data coming from the computer. When the PC does start to boot
up there is a proper video signal coming through and the message goes
away.

If it comes up after the opening Windows XP logo and you cannot get
usable video in Windows then your video settings have been changed to
something that the monitor cannot handle.

You need to boot your computer into Safe Mode and change the video
settings so that the Safe Mode defaults are also used on a normal
startup. Then when you reboot back into normal mode you can change
them again to what you want to use, but make sure that the values are
within the capabilities of your monitor.

Good luck
