Out of office reply message

Hi all,

I have a user that I am trying to help set up an Out of
Office reply to run while she is away. We are using
Outlook 2002 and she is running Windows XP. I understand
that the Out of Office assistant will only work with those
users on our Exchange server so I am trying to set up a
rule to allow users outside of our office to see this
reply. I created a reply text message, saved it as an
Outlook message template and turned on the rule. While her
Outlook is running, I opened up Internet Explorer to
access an email account other than Outlook (AOL), sent an
email, and received the reply message set up in the rule.
However, when I test this on another computer, I do not
receive the reply message. Is there a reason for this? It
is important that others be able to receive this message.
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Lauren

Yes, but this can be changed if your company wishes.

Did you use the same external account? OOO replies only once per sender,
once set.
Why do you need a rule?

Thanks for your reply. I have some questions/answers for
you:

1. How can we change it on our Exchange server so that
others not on the server can receive the Out of Office
reply?

2. Yes, I did test it using the same external account. So
that means the using the Outlook-provided Out of Office
assistant WILL work for an external user but will only
send the reply message once to them even though it sends a
reply to internal users every time a message is sent? In
answer to your other quesrion, I set up a rule as a work
around based on information I read in different tech
support articles.

Please let me know if you need additional information from
me. I appreciate your time on this. Any further
information you may have on this issue would be greatly
appreciated.

Thanks,
Lauren

What version of Exchange?

No, OOO replies only once per sender, period. Get rid of your rule & you'll
see.

OK - but you won't need it, most likely.
