Out-Of-Office Assistant Working Randomly

A

anonymous

A user in another city from my own has setup an Out-Of-
Office Assistant reply. I sent her a test email and
received a response back. I then sent 6 more tests and
received no responses back. I then went to an outside
email account and sent a message and did not receive a
reply. I had a couple of other users send a message to
this person and they received a reply only the first time
and not thereafter.

Any ideas what may be causing the problem? We are using
Outlook 2000 and Exchange 2000

1) If this isn't your own Exchange server & your own mailbox trying to send
OOO replies, any issue is on their end.
2) OOO replies only once per sender. This is by design, and is a Good
Thing - it prevents mail loops.

Right after I sent this message I found the documentation
about the AutoReply going only once, which I understand.
But I'm still having an issue with the User who has the
rule is part of our firm but in one of our other offices
on a different Mailbox Store. For some people who did not
receive the autoreply they are in the same city. It just
doesn't make sense since for some people it works and
others it does not.

So this user's mailbox doesn't send OOO replies automatically *at all*, to
the Internet or to internal users? With a basic OOO message (no rules
within)?
I've heard of this before but don't have a link to anything very useful.
Since this is an Exchange function, not an Outlook one, I suggest you post a
new message in microsoft.public.exchange.admin to ask for help w/that
one....
