Out of Memory

I am trying to run Micosoft Works Spreadsheet on an Windowa XP SP2 insalled
PC with 1G of memory. On Printer Preview I receive the above error. It has
been reported and documented that 98SE and a couple of others cannot run on
Memory over 512 but nothing about XP. I assume that WORKS is an isolated
incident.
Any light on thiss matter? Luckily I have 98SE as NetworkComputer and all is
fine.
Thanks.

What is the exact *verbatim* text of the error message?

Genuine "out of memory" errors from Windows have only two possible
causes:

1. The hard drive is full, thereby preventing Windows from creating
the necessary virtual memory paging file space needed to satisfy the
total memory requirements of the computer.

2. A maximum size limit that is too small has been placed on the
virtual memory paging file thereby artificially creating the same
situation as a full hard drive.

However because this error happens while printing it is possible that
it is being produced by the printer or printer drive and not by
Windows memory management. This would be true if you were printing a
graphic document (and spreadsheets normally print as graphics) on a
laser printer at a high resolution. If you are printing to a laser
printer try reducing the printer resolution from 600 dots per inch to
300 dots per inch, or even to 150 dots per inch and see if that allows
the spreadsheet to print.

Also check with the printer manufacturer and make certain that you
have the latest Windows XP printer drivers for your specific printer
model.

Good luck.

The only posibbilitiy is Virtual Memory settings. However, I can print out
EXCEL Spreadsheet with no problems. I have a 160g Hd drive and that is about
80% Free being the machine has been in service only a week. At this moment, I
am not making any changes to set up. I am treat it now as a software problem.
All my Other Programs from SP1 work great
Thanks Ron BTW What word Processor do you use?

Word 2003. But I am far from an expert with that program.

Your Excel may be set to print at a lower printer resolution than your
Microsoft Works.

For example, if you were printing to a laser printer with only 1 mb of
printer RAM you would probably be able to print okay if the printout
was set for 300 dpi. However at 600 dpi you could get an error
because of the lack of printer memory to build a full page image.

If you have both Microsoft Works and Excel installed on the computer
then try importing your spreadsheet into Excel and see if it will
print that way.

Some versions of Works do have the ability to save in Excel format by
using the "save as" function. And Excel has import filters for most
versions of Works spreadsheets. Use File - Import in Excel.

Good luck

Ron,
I am beginning to lean towards a SP2 issue. I previously had SP1 installed
and had no problems printing WORKS Documents. WORDS and Excel on this machine
are all right. Since there is way around it by printing from 98 on a network
printer, I will continue using Works on 98. On 98 I am using works 4.5.
WORKS 2004 and 4.5 produce the OUT of Memory on XP SP2. There has to be a
PATCH for WOR$KS to run on an SP2 System somewhere.
Thanks again Ron

I have been unable to print any Microsoft Works Documents since I installed
Windows XP with Service Pack 2. I have tried everything to get it working.
My printer works just fine when printing everything else. I've tried every
possible methods provided by HP Help and Support. I have not received any
help from Microsoft, even after several attempts to get help. I have two
support request confirmation numbers that were generated by my e-mail
requests. I also faxed a message to Microsoft, requesting support. So far,
no help.
When I try to print a Works document, I get the following error message:
"Microsoft Works Out of Memory". I know I have plenty of memory in my
computer. Can anyone help?
