Out of Control Multiple Instances

I support a User that had IE7 but uninstalled it back to IE6. This may be
related or not, I don't know. Whenever he clicks on a link or even types a
URL into the address bar and hits Enter, IE6 launches one or more (up to 50)
more instances of the browser. Symantec and Spyware are all up to date and
full checks reveal no viruses or anything else. I am lost. Please advise.

to an appropriate forum.

It will help you to both identify and remove any hijackware/spyware with
