Hello people.

Out of the "ring" of Linux/*BSD (UNIX-like) operating systems, what
other freeware OS are available?

A whole bunch of OSs are discussed at:
http://www.osnews.com/

Ones that spring to mind are SkyOs, Syllable, Menuet. I don't think they
actually do anything useful, mind. Maybe FreeOs that Steve Burn mentions
works, but that would be about it. The Open Source community is littered
with OSs that don't really work, and have been abandoned.

I have used Menuet in the past... rather good for an OS that fits on
1.44MB!

I didn't know about AROS or Haiku.

SkyOS is not free.

Syllable can be used as a desktop OS if you want (and your hardware is
supported). Many open source programs have been ported to it.

And I think MenuetOS could be used as an embedded OS when that needs a
simple GUI.
