OT: Working Around Far Cry 1.2 patch save game problem

I figured out how to kind of work around the Far Cry 1.2 patch problem that
won't let you load saved games. For those of you who patched while a game
was in progress and now think you have to start over from the beginning--you
don't. There are cheats that allow you to skip levels.
1. Load most recent working save game file (if you can find one) or start
new game under a new profile.
2. bring down the console with ~ and type "\map <name of level>"
You can get the names of the levels at
http://www.gamespot.com/pc/action/farcry/hints.html

This should get you back pretty close to where you were---you might not have
the same weapons, but it is better than starting over.

I'm not installing it. I never heard so many complaints.
No sound. No weapons effect. What the heck is this?
Didn't they test it at all? I've got Far Cry working just
fine. It ain't broke, so I ain't gonna fix it.

etc work with no probs. Shaun

I've never seen a patch, new game, etc be released without a flood of people
crying foul. Most of the time it turns out to be caused by operator error,
such as hacked maps or settings, that cause the problems. This isn't to say
that problems don't exist but I've learned not to pay attention to most of
the whining that I see unless the source can be reasonably verified either
by past performance of the source, or by intellegent, logical information in
the post or article.
.... but I am wary of each new patch, I usually back up before patching.
