I'm having trouble loading the software that came with my son's Ipod mini
onto the computer. Box is windows xp home.
The setup.exe file does not run automatically so I'm trying to
install it manually. If I click on the file though I'm told that "windows
cannot open this file, to open, windows needs to know the program that
created it".
I've searched the Apple website for help but nothing there is
relevant. Googling has panned out yet.
Any thoughts?

Visit http://www.apple.com/ipod/download/ and download the software
designed for use with Windows XP.

I've thought of that but gadzooks, I'm on dialup. 41.8 MB will takes days if
not weeks. Actually started to do it last night but realized there's got to
better an easier or better way.
Thought I could associate the setup.exe file somehow so that
scenario could be avoided. Oh well, you do what you gotta do.

EXE files are associated with themselves.

Open Windows Explorer/Tools/Folder Options/file types and
set the (clear) the wrong association.
