OT: windows 7 download

I thought W7 is available today. I tried and ended up

Windows 7 RC Download Center

Please wait while the Download Manager begins your download.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------
----
If you have not already installed ActiveX control or the JavaTM applet, an
information box will appear in your Microsoft Internet Explorer browser
prompting you to install "ActiveX control:...".
If the Download Manager can not install the ActiveX control or the JavaTM
applet in your browser, you may have system restrictions.

If you have system restrictions, please:

Download products using the Web Browser method
Contact your organization's Administrator to download products using the
Download Manager method

as my reward despite turning off pop up blocker and verified java runtime
is installed (1.6 something)

what is the link to web download method instead of the download manger?

it appears the download requires admin power to be prompted for a download
manager signed by kamahi technology inc.

this does not seem all that kosher with security practice to me

That download uses only "download mgr" from microsoft.Either way, with a
3-5GB cable internet connection downloading at 512bps,the download takes
12hrs or so,is it worth that....

No, Windows 7 is not yet available. It will probably be available
later this year.

What is available is a *release candidate* for Windows 7. You can
download and run it if you want to, but it's still a test version. I
strongly recommend that you do not run it on a production machine, and
you do so on only if you have a spare machine and like to play with
test versions of software.

I should have mentioned my interest is in the RC not the production version
so I can do some test to prepare for the production release implementation
next year

The RC copy is available here:

thx, it took me only about one hour to download around 300KB/s

I started installing the x86 on VPC 2007 on a core 2 Q vista 64 host

The installation on uninit. disk is not smart. It blindly recommend update
install.

Looks like Vpc 2007 is not exactly a good test install platform despite only
46% physical host Ram are used, 5 % cpu used. the install process is slow

the RC is really stable and solid so far for me. better than Vista and got
some nicer feature than xp
