OT, well slightly Anyway to 'fool' google+ into letting me use it?

background: [I use dialup]
Finally fired up the WinXP with IE8 and Google Chrome on it. and
firefox.
There is a telco/video conference I wish to join which uses google+
and skype
I already have a skype account and have used it to make telephone
calls.
In order to join the conference, I need to run google+.
I did that. In order to be 'found' I have to have my gmail account
open. I did that.
STILL DOES NOT WORK!

Why? because I'm using dialup and using basic html, and not 'standard
view' some whiz bang slow ...
Ok, so went back and asked for gmail to come in with all kinds of
bogged down slow stuff, and the screen starts to look correct, BUT!
then I get error messages that say something about some features
didn't download and are not installed.. Some of those features relate
to background bookkeeping ?! How you mark and store your emails,
things that are really 'background' operations that don't need to be
using a fast link.
AND of course the little green button that allows me to be recognized
is NOT there.so no one knows I'm on line.

I know I can use skype and talk/listen even through the dialup, all I
need to do is somehow get recognized while in gmail that I'm available
to talk to and I'm off and running.

Any ideas how to 'fool' google's preceonceived erroneous decisions
into thinking I'm available?

Maybe it's working as well as can be expected.

There are a couple references to running caching software
on your desktop computer, in an effort to avoid downloading
common files over and over again. But it's possible that
just the "keep-alive" traffic for all of that baloney
they run, is enough to swamp your 5KB/sec of available
bandwidth.

There is also a suggestion to run a mobile copy of the site, in the
hope there'd be less garbage in it. I expect though, it's a losing
battle if the developers don't care to make it work with everything.
There is still a significant percentage of users using dialup. Rural
areas still aren't served that well.

wow! I'm not alone in being irritated at getting slow 'pretty' versus
fast 'information'.

and yes, I constantly get images, that when I simply go to move them
for better viewing COMPLETELY disappears!! until fill in again -
maybe.

The ONLY company I respect and would hand money to willingly, right
now is craigslist.Seems to be the only company that cares little for
whizbang and a lot for true information.

Even services paid for by tax dollars [GIS map srevice of Maricopa
County, AZ] now REQUIRES MS Silverlight. THIS just to show a map!
Wait! there's more. Instead of simply giving you information about a
parcel, the information zooms up into view. Wow THAT was really worth
requiring crap software installed in your system and really worth the
time for the link to bog down to load that zoom.

I don't think I can cache, but will look into it. If the link to
simple google+ is slow to begin with, skype is not going to work well
on top that.
