Default EM program - when in IE - Google switched it to use gmail

I want outlook to be my default em program when clicking on em address on a
web page using IE. Google somehow changed this default to gmail.

I have a gmail account but only use it for junk ems - like registrations.

how do i get switched back to outlook? using XP, office 2007, outlook and IE.

the default em program in IE is set to outlook. i read about editing the
registry here but i am scared of that as i have never done that before.

if i try this registry fix and it does not work - can i use the go back
thing to go back to a previous set up
