OT: VB.NET Humor

I was at DevDays in Atlanta yesterday and someone was showing off some of
the new features in Whidbey. Someone asked "What's the better language, C#
or VB.NET?"

Answer: "Program in whatever you like. If you have a C background, then
program in C#. If you have a VB background, program in VB.NET. If you
don't want to fit in the mold and learn something new, program in the
language you aren't used to. Unless you need the "Emotional Security" of a
semicolon on the end of every line and a lot of braces to prove how good
your memory is and how well you type, VB.NET will do everything for you that
C# will"

BTW, another few factiods. VB.NET is being used more in absolute numbers.
We were told it's pretty close but VB.NET is edging out C# by 5-10%.
However, of 'large companies' C# edges out VB.NET by the same margin.

Even though I program in C# a good deal more than VB.NET, i just got the
urge to go over to the C# group and make the comment about emotional
security, just to see the response.

Cheers,

Bill

Nice story. "Emotional Security" is a really good term ;-).

That's very interesting, but I am not sure if it is true. If I have a
quick look at the German language .NET groups, there is about
equal "traffic" in both, the VB.NET and the C# group. In the VB.NET
groups, there are slightliy more beginner's questions than in the C#
group.

Hi Bill,

My opinion, when I am busy (seldom) with C# or Javascript I am always
thinking about that useless semicolom .

However when I am busy with VB, I am always thinking about that useless
"then"

But do us a favor when you post this in the C# group, cross post it.

:))

So is "Post Traumatic Stress Disorder"

Hello Left Field!

WTF does that have to do with company usage/preference? If you can find the
correlation between the two you are destined to be the greatest logistical
analyst ever!

=)

Nuttin' but luv.

That is easy to explain, Herfried things probably that there are in large
companies more experts than in smaller companies.

He has still a lot to learn.

Ha! I think this newsgroup alone proves that theory wrong. It's the large
companies (because those people are proud to brag about it) that seem to
have the worst programmers with the least knowledge.

Hell, look at some of the Microsoft Support guys on here. It's plainly
obvious they know nothing about their own product. =)
