OT: Need independent computer shop - Chicago area

begin  trojan.vbs ... On Tuesday 30 August 2005 06:38 am, Doug Kanter had
this to say in microsoft.public.windowsxp.general:
Sorry if this is somewhat OT, but I'm casting about for help. My company's
shipping a computer to a sales rep in Naperville IL, and he's probably
going to need someone who can walk into his home and assist with getting
him hooked up to the web. The sales rep's pretty much clueless, so it
would take years to work through various settings over the phone with him.
We have a tech person at our NYC home office who *may* be able to do this
over the phone, but I'd like to cover all the bases, in case we need
someone quickly.

If anyone's used a local computer shop out that way, I'd appreciate the
name.

Don't you think your company should be training your employees on how to
properly use a computer? So you get some shop to set the thing up. Then
what? If your employee is as clueless as you suggest, it won't take him
long to completely trash that system through his ignorance and the inherent
lack of security within XP. If all he's going to be doing is hooking up to
the web, why don't you at least provide him with a secure system that will
just work without the need for constant babysitting and handholding?

I'm glad you took my light jab in the spirit in which it was intended.
I just couldn't think of a more effective way to express my contempt
for the technical ability of Best Buy's service department, given our
"history." ;-}

I wasn't under the impression that Best Buy had any "Technical
Ability" at all.

Story about Oriface Depot... went in to get a buy 1 get one free deal
on optical media coasters. I wanted a 100 count drum of 8x DVD+R's
but couldn't find them. Some kid up front said he would get them for
me and off he went. Came back with a 25 count drum of CD-R's. NO...
8x DVD+R's I says...... 5 minutes later he comes back with a 50 count
drum of..... CD-R's..... I scratch my head thinking to myself how
does this kid have enough brain cells to make his diaphragm work which
causes his lungs to inflate and deflate causing life giving O2 to
enter his system making his..... what do they call that thing.....
BRAIN to operate. Well when he came back the third time with a 10
count box of 3 1/2 floppies I just walked out. A free 100 count drum
of 8x DVD+R's is not worth that kind of incompetence..... Just think
if he had finally got it right... then he would have had to operate
the cash register and... MY GOD! Make Change.... Says a lot about
Oriface Depot......

Ed

He just needs to get connected to the web? He probably has Comcast cable in
his area, I think they still do in-home internet setups.
