Hello,
i know it is not the right place but i know also that maybe somebody can
help me :)

i try to reach my router with http://192.168.1.1 and i receive the pop up
for the logon i enter the logon and the password and then i receive 2 screen
left and right (because frame i suppose) with the message http 400.
with telnet i reach the router but i have not the menu.

i search on google but no response

Last month i reach the router with no problem.

I install a 500mb extern disk (WD) on the router.

With iconfig /all i see the passerelle is well 192.168.1.1 and the masque
sous reseau is well 255.255.255.0 and i am in dhcp.

I try to uninstall S&D and no extern disk on the router but it is the same.

I dare not reset the router because if i reach not the router after the
reset i have problems ;-)

somebody have a idea ?

Hello Stu,

thanks, i try but it do not work.
i am sure it is 192.168.1.1 because when i look the properties from my
connection i see 192.168.1.1
I can reach it with telnet also but i have not the menu
I can open it with http (login + password) but then 2 screen (frames !) with
the error message http 400.

I think it is maybe a problem when i install this external disk, or a
security in IE (security or advanced) !!??

i know it is OT thus i ask help only if someone has already had this problem.

thanks

Hi Benoit,

Can you try it with a other browser like Firefox?
Let us know how this worked.

Hi benoit

Is your network wireless or cable connected? I am wondering because I`m
equally wondering what you mean about installing your external HD to the
router? Am I understanding correctly that your external HD is directly
connected to your router by way of a USB connection?

Try entering 192.168.0.1 in your search window.
When the touter interface comes up, enter admin without a password.
If no joy, contact your router vender to help you reset it.

Can you tell us the make and model of the router?

In general, resetting the router is most likely going to be needed, I
suspect.

To do that successfully, you will need to know what the current settings are
that you will need to put in again, and what the default settings are that
the router will be reset to--mainly the username and password. The router
will reset to DHCP enabled and some default address, and once you have reset
it, you do an ipconfig /renew on a PC with automatic IP addressing enabled,
and look at what default gateway address is acquired.

Then telnet or HTTP to that address use the default router credentials to
log in, and reconfigure the router as it had been before.

Error 400 = bad request

Since you reached the logon page, I would hazard a guess that it's rejecting
your logon.

can not access the menu to add the mac address of my laptop
why this problem ? it has always worked well !

That fear is not completely irrational, however, I've not lost a router
except to a bad firmware update--I lost an early Linksys router to such an
update years ago.

I would go ahead and reset to factory defaults via the second link. Read
the first one to see what you will need to do to re-connect after the reset,
though.

You have tried simply power-cycling the router?

http://www.netopia.com/support/hardware/technotes/CQG_100.html

I believe the link above gives exhaustive instructions about how to connect
to this router from its initial starting point.

Here's the page for resetting to factory defaults:

http://www.netopia.com/support/hardware/technotes/CQG_102.html

And the general page with links to the above:

Setting up the Netopia Cayman is easy; type the router's IP address into a
browser, create a password for admin access to the configuration pages,
supply your ADSL username and password, and you're done. You're then taken
straight to a product registration page on Netopia's website - good proof
that the connection is working for one thing. If you want to fine-tune any
of the settings in your router, you'll have to type in the IP address again,
then you'll be taken to the configuration pages rather than the initial
simple setup interface.

Is it possible that your router is trying to get to the web registration
site?

I'm looking, but haven't found any description of how the Telnet interface
should work--if you type "help" at that prompt, what happens?

The current firmware is 7.5 R1, fwiw, so if you get the router back to its
normal operational state, you might consider updating the firmware--but I
would NOT recommend doing that in its current condition--too many unknowns!

Have you tried using this addressing format:

http://192.168.1.x:8100

(replace the x by the actual address component, and add :8100 to the end.)

See the manual here:

http://www.netopia.com/equipment/pdf/manuals/SoftwareUserGuideV75Clsc.pdf

It is possible to turn off admin access to the web and Telnet admin methods
via a setting in the router--that doesn't seem to match what you are seeing,
though.

Netopia does have both live chat and email tech support via their site.

Hello ,

192.168.1.1:8100 don't work

in fact i reach the router but the menu is not display

i have just a mail from the support from netopia, i read and say you what.
It seems that they say also to do a reset but i ask him before why i have
this problem, because the reset is maybe not the solution and if it is not
the solution and my router is reset i lost the mac adress from my laptop onto
the router !!!

B

benoit

Hello,

I know all that. I am afraid to reset the router and if that solve not my
problem ?Because i have a laptop upon the router via mac adress and if after
the reset i have no the menu like now i have a problem...

Resetting the router will not necessarily affect the ability for your laptop
to communicate with your router. You will have to re enter previous settings
(as Bill has already mentioned) or create new ones - a pain but one which I
have done before and strongly believe in when things go wrong. Back to
default settings. At least that way you fairly confident you are starting
with a `clean sheet`. As for MAC address filtering. That comes later after
you have re established your network and previous settings would be erased on
reset. It Is a security `Option` on your router settings page rather than a
requirement - an important one I grant you in terms of who you want to access
your network. I would definately try both options mentoned by Bill ie.
powering off/on and resetting. BTW just out of interest. Is Windows handling
your network or the software that came with your router? Some time back I had
a similar problem to the one you are describing as a result of converting
from the router software to Windows. In my case, it turned out during the set
up process, I had unwittingly configured two networks - both with the same
internal settings but a different SSID. I can only conclude this must have
confused my router as well as Windows. Once the offending entry had been
eradicated plus a reset, all was well. Whatever you do I can only reiterate
what Bill S has already said. Make sure you know the default passwords for
your router where necessary. You should find this info in your router user
guide.
