...I cringed whilst watching it !!!

So did I, when she actually said that a Maxtor hard drive was
"well-engineered" and "reliable."

The only thing I thought was funny...
the mention that the drive was a "really fast" 7200 rpm.

That's 100% standard

Suppose she worked at BB?

What struck me funny about that video was that monstrous fan
blowing against a wall with a few holes in it. Had the drive cage
been rotated 90*, it would have great airflow across the drives,
into the case.

So how do you feel about Seagate hard disks?

Depends on the specific type (SCSI, etc) and era. They've had good
years and bad years. Same as with most manufacturers, really; it's just
that Maxtor's seemed to me to have many more bad years than good. (And
don't get me started ion that execrable MaxBlast!)

ummmm, there are so many type of Maxtor drives, I've come across several 1/4
height? / very slim 3 1/2" - noisy | whining | short lived ones.
....didn't Hitachi take over a hd manufacturer recently i.e. aren't most
Seagate and Maxtor drive mostly the same nowadays ?
....atm I have a MAXTOR STM380811AS (boot drive) and a MAXTOR STM3160811AS
(storage)... both extremely quiet and reliable !

....also there's a MAXTOR STM380811AS in Dad's PC in the house, and three
times across the past couple of years it's Ghost iamge backup pumped back in
i.e. it wouldn't boot up at all. That last time it had a thorough "Spinrite
6'ing" and that didn't highlight any problems - ...I was left suspecting
that the "fast-boot" or "Super-boot" option in the bios on his board was
causing the problem. i.i there was mentio in the manual that parts of the
Windows OS were "saved" ..or something like that ,. ...never did fing time
to pin it down !

I've always like Seagate hd's, ...strange how lots of the Maxtors have
Seagate part Nos' :-)

regards, Richard

....it's only the "slim" Maxtors, a few years ago I found to be not too
reliable, and they didn't last very long, and they made a very loud whine as
well.
My MAXTOR STM380811AS (boot drive) and a MAXTOR STM3160811AS (storage) hd's
are going strong, and are REALLY quiet !

Lack of anti-static precautions ! ...unless her ankles were earthed. i.e.
she didn't even lick her fingers and touch a "large metal object" e.g. the
case chassis ? ...her "thoughtless" handling of the hd - repeatedly
touching the IDE board - I didn't like !
....not initially correctly "offering up" the SATA plug i.e. LOOKING to
check the "L" shaped orientations in the SATA plug and socket !!! ...
someone should have told her they existed !
....bless her, she did a lovely job BUT, was not properly trained to convey
just a little system building caution and expertise !

regards, Richard

....that's because you perhaps are not a system builder ?

IIRC Hitachi bought IBM's desktop drive business and Seagate bought
Maxtor. I don't think Western Digital or Samsung are part of any of the
other companies.

Not that necessarily. The last 7200 rpm drive I bought had "33% faster than
a 5400 rpm drive" emblazoned across the box.
