I'm a nerd, I never keep up with soccer.

That was a joke. I don't keep up with basketball, either. ;)

It's where a bunch of rich men under the influence of performance enhancing
drugs get together to play in a certain type of building that, should a
hurricane or other disaster wipe out the entire town, is rebuilt first.
Children are taken to this event (typically by single fathers) so they may
observe drunken adults shout obsenities and pour $10US cups of Budwieser
"beer" onto the rich men so the concept of sportsmanship is passed to a new
generation. Most well known baseball player: Chico Escuela.

And how is that different from any other sport?

Not here in St. Louis -- that would be Pujols, Ozzie, Sutter, Gibson,
Brock, Musial (working backwards)...

You are kidding, right?

Can you imagine "drunken adults shout obsenities and pour ... Budwieser"
during swimming championship? Or golf? Or tennis? Or volleyball? I can go on
and on.

For the majors like football (european/american), basket, baseball and hockey
you're probably right though.

Oh, by the way (just has to ask): Why do you call it "football" if most of
the time it is in hands of players? Handball would be more fitting IMO :)

Point taken.

That's what I meant.

I have no idea. They should call American Football soccer and soccer
football.
