the above is one long link

Microsoft is urging an estimated 70 million users of Windows 98 to upgrade
as it ends support for the software.
From 11 July, Microsoft will no longer help users over the phone with any
problems they have with the ageing operating system.

The firm will also stop providing security updates for Windows 98 from the
same date.

Support for the software was originally due to end in 2003, but was extended
following customer protests............ more on link

And all the people using 98 are gonna queue up to get XP? LMAO. You
really ARE clueless.

I am quite happy with Win98SE, have no intention of changing operating
systems, although I am experimenting with Puppy Linux + Ubuntu which I
just got in the mail, free of charge. I especially have no intention of
changing to Vista because I only have a P3 600 computer. Vista requires
a much more powerful machine which I am not going to purchase. Win98SE
serves my computer requirements perfectly.

Jones, is kinda a slang term for an addiction. I don't have a clue to
the etymology of the word, but has been around for a couple of
decades, at least. :)

He is not clueless - only posting info - MS is clueless, BUT MS makes a loy
of money selling OSes to computer makers so it is in MS best interest to push
users toward new machines. Luckily new, used machines that run XP have
gotten quite cheap. Of course, 98 will keep running <vbg>

Are there still offering the patches that have already been written.
In other words, where are the old security patches?

I believe there was an unofficial win98 service pack...
in other words a download that had all the updates...

try googling for that..

Yes they are. I don't know where ('cause we don't run win98). As for
how much longer, I wasn't able to find a hard answer. I don't believe
they'll be pulling that plug soon since
- it's cheap to provide
- there's an estimated 70 million users out there.
