OT (a bit) Decoding RAR files

Some multimedia groups are full of multipart postings in RAR format. How do
I handle these? Will my newsreader (40tude Dialog) automatically assemble
the parts once downloaded? Or do I need something else?

I've done a search of www.pricelesswarehome.org, but can't seem to find
anything relevant... Maybe I'm just dumb.

TIA
Mike

Just download the bodies, Dialog handles all the job.

You're welcome. :)

Remeber you can also have Dialog to save these attachments automatically in
a folder of your choice. You can have a default folder for every group that
uses the default options, or also a specific folder for a specific group.

Look at
Group - Default group options - Retrieving -> last option on the right

or at
Group - Selected group options - ... as above

Dialog will reassemble the multiple parts of a .rar file, but you
still need a program that understands .rar files to put those parts
together. By itself Dialog can't unzip a .zip file, nor can it unrar
a .rar file.

I use the command-line program "Unrar for Windows" for this, still
available as freeware from:
http://www.winrar.de/edownload/tools.html
but command-line programs are too hard for most people to set up.

I know that a lot of easier freeware compression programs that have
been discussed here like IZArc, 7-Zip and TugZip can handle .rar files
as well as lots of other compressed file types, but I don't know which
ones can open *multipart* .rar files. Hopefully somebody else here
will know, otherwise just try one or two that say they understand
"rar".

That's correct. I was answering to the Subject part, about decoding, and
payed not much attention to the body part, about reassembling.

Yes, I did that some time ago. It's a nice feature. Thanks.

Thanks everyone for the tips. I'm following them up.
