I use W98SE, happy with it.

What is the method you use to "reinstall of the OS, which
Ghosting ( Norton Ghost ) back the last decent installation works for
me. Takes all the angst out of testing software/drivers.

<grin>

That reminds me...back in '88 or '89 when MS talked Dave Cutler (VMS'
daddy) and a bunch of others to leave DEC. Pretty soon after that the
MS-IBM OS/2 marriage started crumbling...tears, recriminations. And NT
was "born."

Fwiw, I was working for a company at the time that developed Unix for
intel chips...somewhat "revolutionary" idea. Back then we were called
The Santa Cruz Operation, the os was called Xenix and its patent-holder
to whom we paid licensing fees was a company by the name of Microsoft.

Who in turn had licenced it from AT&T!
They figured *nix on an intel was a curiosity and never bothered to
bring it to market.

The last version of Xenix was 2.3.4.

Brings back memories!!

Gordon

Simply put the CD in and run Setup (or let it auto install).

It will overwite a lot of files, which may include corrupted ones.
always worked for me...... lots of times!

It doesn't affect your personal files.

I found out by trying it on my first W98 when it had become hopelessly
unstable.

Of course it's much better to clean out the rubbish, scanreg/fix, ,
scandisk and defrag, use a registry cleaner (a safe one), regularly.

Also use Total uninstall - my version is freeware - , specially on a new
clean instalation, to clean up after software uninstallation.

But it took me some time to learn all this!

3 Reasons not to.
I'd have to change my printer, my scanner, a zip drive, none of
which
have drivers available for Linux. So it wouldn't be free for me.

Who Cares?

Thanks to mike and Steve.

There's different ways, one of these days I will try it, although my install has
been usually very stable.

Great response. No wonder Linux has so few users.

Bill T.

You mean among the Windows WAREZ/GAMING CROWD, right?

Like I said, Who Cares?

A quick look at the headers shows he posted with
X-Newsreader: WinVN 0.99.12P (x86 32bit) so why would a person
using windows have anything to do with the number of linux users?

Using windows for convenience for internet doesn't meant they don't use *x.

Some of my 16 pcs (okay, some are p400s , whoops 18 and some are p333,
hangon I think that printer has a 266 on it , 19 )
may run linux, does that count as 1 user or a dozen?

[ P500's are cheap, you can get a decent one for $50, P1000 =$100
you can buy half a dozen salvage for $50, and maybe make 3 or 4 working
out of them

One user. If you own ten cars, are you one owner or ten?

One owner, but I have to register all ten if I want to use them on public
roads,
but I only need one license on public roads, I could link them and
run a road train if I wanted, and on my property I could do it
without rego or license.

On the other hand if I wanted to run XP on 10 PCs the legal minds at MS
would say I was ten.

It would seem running 10 copies of linux is better for my mental health,
microsoft claims their software gives me multiple personalities.

And, if not, at least it gives you multiple ulcers, multiple migraines
and, at times, multiple urges to kill something.
