OST, NK2 & signatures dissappear after windows updates

Hello,

We've been rolling out office updates to our users for some time now and no
one has been able to come up with a solution.

We use WSUS to send office (critical and standard) updates to approx 300
clients. When we send out the critical junk filter update we get this
happening to 100% of our users (and any other office related update):
*Ost file is cleared and outlook opens saying "preparing for 1st time use"
*signature files need to be recreated
*and cached lookup is empty

I can't find where the root cause is, is it int eh way we send out updates
or is it the way outlook has been installed or configured.

some background knowledge:
*Office was installed manually (and image taken and deployed to users) on a
computer to create a baseline - so not a central deplyment done for this
*we have a GPO which manages the PRF creation
*we also have a GPO which ensures cached exchange is turned on (we created
this GPO because when we rolled out WSUS updates the 1st time it switch off
cached exchange mode onthe clients)
all users are on teh same doman (so nothing complex going on here)
We are running XP SP3 and office 2007 (with 2007 excel)

I've only found a handful of people experiencing htis problem but no root
casue.

any ideas?
