OS transfer on new machine legal?

Hi,
I'm giving Vista Ultimate Full a run on a "dying" P4 Northwood @3.00 GHz. I
did not make up my mind about what my next set up will be... Quadro, maybe
64 etc.
I did not activate yet... 28 days left, and I have a few images of my XP Pro
install that I can pop in and restore in a few minutes.
My Q: if I activate Vista on this P4 machine, is it legal - according to
MS - to transfer (or rather change mobo/CPU etc) it later to another system?

Yes, as long as the old one is put out of service, formatted, etc. Only one
copy can be in use at a time (or installed...)

OEM versions are non transferable.

True. I did put that in a previous post (actually, one up on my list!), but
forgot to include it here. Thanks for the clarification!
