OS copy - restore

I surely heard of such freeware here, but now I've forgot its name :-|

I would like something that make a full copy of the Operating System
so it's possible to restore if something has gone wrong. My idea is to
use this for trying heavy software installation and then turn surely
back in a clean OS. Something like the restore point in XP, but this
seems more sure to me.

And ... thanks to all in the NG for all the precious informations I
find every time I look here.
