OS compatability question

I'm running Windows XP Home Edition. I just bought 4 games each of which
have the following system requirements: (1) Windows 98/ME; (2) Windows 95/98;
Windows 95. When I purchased them I assumed that by running XP I would have
no problem in installing and playing each program. I have not attempted
installation and am hesitant to do so. Opening the packaging only to find
out they can't be installed means a waste of money on my part. So-o-o my
question is can I install and run these games on XP?

You might want to try installing and running first, but most of the "older"
games will run perfectly well on Windows XP. Some need to use Compatibility
Mode (details are in Help and Support), and this TechNet article will help

Basically, what Compatibility Mode does is allow the older program to
"think" it is being installed on the operating system for which it was
designed. You also need to pay attention to the game's requirements, and
some need to be installed using Compatibility starting with the installation
itself by going to Start/Run/Browse and locating the install.exe or
setup.exe file on the root of the CD. You can right-click that file, follow
the pattern to use Compatibility Mode and have it install.

After the install, make sure to update the program from the web site of the
creator, then right-click the icon you'll use to launch the game and make
sure the proper Compatibility settings are ready. You also need to make
sure the proper display and color settings are selected.

have a look at www.ntcompatible.com for the games in question and see if
anyone has them running on XP

you could also check the game's website or developer's website for patches
for the games.Sometimes these may allow certain games to run with XP
