Organize favorites by create date

I see discussions here about how to sort Favorites alphabetically, but that's
not what I want to do. My Favorites were previously sorted in the order they
were created and now all of a sudden they are alphabetically listed. I want
to go back to the date order sort. Anyone know how to do that?

Hello Lisa, I also have similar post asking the same question. My favorites
are also automatically resorting themselves in alphabetical order. The only
answers I have gotten so far was that is what IE does, or to check for some
type of spyware. I will keep checking your posting to see if anyone has any
ideas. I am stumped!

Thanks, HJS

This happened to me when my bookmark file was moved from my old PC to my new
PC this week.

If you still have access to the old computer from which the favorites came
try this:

Close IE before you do this. As a precaution you should first move your
favorites to another location on your new computer before you attempt this
procedure.

Another way to use favorites is to simply locate the folder they are stored
in.

Start>search files and folders> and use the word favorites. You will find a
folder for every user on the computer.

Simply right click on the found folder icon and send to desktop.

When this is done you will have easy access and as a bonus can sort /
re-sort at any time by clicking on the grey column headers in the Windows
Explorer view.

Clicking on any favorite will get you to the site.

I know this is not perfect but when you get used to it it is very handy for
finding those with elusive names that remember saving but .....

Well, since the usual procedure to do the reverse is to right-click
the folder and check Sort by Name, have you tried right-clicking
the folder and *unchecking* Sort by Name?

Otherwise it would be useful to know if the copied Favorites subdirectory
still preserves the original order. One way of doing that would be to
switch to a cmd window and use the dir/p command. E.g. on XP
enter:

cd /d %USERPROFILE%\Favorites

and then

dir/p

If that shows you the *.url files in Favorites in the order you want
(e.g. definitely not in chronological order)
there is a good chance that unchecking that right-click option
will show that order too.

Good luck
