Why can't I move chart objects in an organizational chart using Powerpoint
2003? I should just be able to drag and drop to move the objects around and
it won't let me.

Consider drawing your own org charts using PowerPoint's shapes and connector
lines instead. It's a bit more work but gives you a lot more flexibility.

If you've got existing org charts, you can convert them to drawing shapes this
way:

Select the chart
Choose Edit, Copy
Move the chart out of the way or go to a new slide
Choose Edit, Paste Special, EMF and click OK
Ungroup the new chart a few times so you can get at the individual shapes
