How can I ?....Organization Chart connectors & Hierarchy subordina

N

Noel

I'm trying to use the Organizational chart in Powerpoint but everytime I try
to move a box over an another one (to keep them vertically aligned), the
connector goes slanted. I've tried the Hierarchy design and it keeps the
connectors straight, but the subordinate boxes go from left to right instead
of top to bottom. I want to have it look like this....

Director
|
Manager
|
-----------------------------------
| | |
Sup. Sup. Sup.
| | |
Emp. Emp. Emp.
| |
Emp. Emp.
|
Emp.
(Straight connectors & subordinates underneath aligned straight)

I understand I can do this in Visio, but I can't edit Visio objects in
Powerpoint. And I also found that I can ungroup the charts and change it to
my likeing but it's time consuming and if I have to change or delete any
boxes, I would have to redo the entire chart. Is there an easier and better
way?

Hi Noel

What version are you using?

Hi Noel,

To echo, Lucy's question, what version of PowerPoint are you using?

If you are using PowerPoint 2007, you can insert Visio objects and
then edit them once they are on your PowerPoint slide. Here are the
steps:

1. In Visio, select the drawing/objects that you want to paste onto
your PowerPoint slides. (You may want to select the connectors that
are rerouting and set their behavior to "Never reroute." To do that,
right-click on the connector, select Behavior, click the Connector
tab, and in the Reroute menu select Never.)

2. In PowerPoint, select the slide that you want to paste the drawing
onto. On the Home tab, in the Paste group, click the arrow below Paste
and select Paste Special.

3. In the Paste Special dialog box, select Microsoft Visio Drawing
Object.

To edit a Visio object once its on your slide, do the following:

1. Right click on the drawing on the slide, point to Visio Object, and
select Edit.

I hope that helps! (Of course, you could always just use SmartArt ...)

Did you figure this out? I just had the same problem (slanted lines
connecting the boxes). Make sure that your shapes are set to
"Standard" layout. On the ribbon: SmartArt Tools > Design > Create
Graphic > Layout > Standard. I think you have them set to Left or
Right Hanging.
