Orange Highlighting of Applications Awaiting Response Drives Me Cr

How can I turn this off. I'm not sure what the feature is called but let's
say I'm working in Photoshop and somebody sends me an Instant Message via
AIM. Let's also say I've already got the AIM chat window open with this
person and I've simply minimized it. When they send me a new message it
doesn't pop the window up, but it does make the taskbar come up (from hidden)
and the AIM window in the task bar blinks orange until I click it.

This happens with any application that wants me to respond to it or
something when it's not the active application. how can I turn this off!?

Here is a link to a screenshot I've taken so you can see what I'm talking
about. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

It's called Focus.

Well, actually I already had that turned on. The only 2 options it gives
though are to flash a certain number of times or to just flash until you
click it. Either way, it's gonna pop up the task bar and it will remain
orange until you click on it. Still VERY annoying. How can I turn this off
completely???

Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

That still makes the task bar pop up and stay on top of everything until you
click that. I hide my taskbar for a reason and I hate that it always just
pops itself right back up because of other applications.

If there's any other way to just turn this darn thing off I'd much
appreciate it. I'd like an "ignore other applications" option. The only
application I want to do anything is the one I have active. Why is that so
hard to accomplish? :(

Any other information would be aweseome. Thanks!

That's exactly how I have it setup right now. It makes the task-bar pop up
and highlights the thing orange but just sits there like that until I click
it. If I set the flash thing then it actually makes the orange highlight
blink at me a number of times. With one it just baically stays solid.

Yes, well in a single-tasking enviornment this is great. However, today many
millions of computer users have discovered the great joy of what we like to
call multi-tasking!

The main issue is AIM. And of course I have to this open in the
background...just to use it! Anytime somebody sends me a message it HAS to
popup in one way or another because of this "feature." If I close each IM
then of course it will pop up on my screen again when they send a new
message. If I simply minimize the IM window then it pops up the orange bar
as shown the screenshot I provided in my original post.

Also, at work I use dual monitors. In this case of course I have more than
one application open and working...that's kinda the point. And the problem
arises here as well. I'm constantly having to click the stupid applications
to make the "focus" go away from them and allow my taskbar to hide itself
away again.

While I appreciate your obvious sarcasm you might want to try and make sure
it at least makes sense next time.

If you DON'T WANT the IM PROGRAM responding TURN IT to DND for crying
out loud! Sheesh. Seems you don't have the ability to focus on the task
at hand much less "multitask". Learn to use/set the features properly.
You don't gouge the ringer out of the phone with a screwdriver to make
it stop ringing do you?!?!? And by the way dual monitors does NOT
increase the number of programs you can run. It merely increases the
"desktop screen area" as would using a larger monitor. Good day.

:

Don't start programs you don't want working in the background is what
most of us use to prevent this problem.

DRUAngell wrote:

That still makes the task bar pop up and stay on top of everything until you
click that. I hide my taskbar for a reason and I hate that it always just
pops itself right back up because of other applications.

If there's any other way to just turn this darn thing off I'd much
appreciate it. I'd like an "ignore other applications" option. The only
application I want to do anything is the one I have active. Why is that so
hard to accomplish? :(

Any other information would be aweseome. Thanks!

How can I turn this off. I'm not sure what the feature is called
but let's say I'm working in Photoshop and somebody sends me an
Instant Message via AIM. Let's also say I've already got the AIM
chat window open with this person and I've simply minimized it.
When they send me a new message it doesn't pop the window up, but
it does make the taskbar come up (from hidden) and the AIM window
in the task bar blinks orange until I click it.

This happens with any application that wants me to respond to it or
something when it's not the active application. how can I turn this
off!?

Here is a link to a screenshot I've taken so you can see what I'm

First, I DO want the IM responding...I simply don't want to have it bringing
my task bar up everytime it does. Talk about a simple task you can't even
read what I'm saying here.

I NEVER said dual monitors allow more programs....I said I have one
application open on one monitor and another on the other. As ignorance comes
into play, I can see how you'd mis-understand this. I'm simply talking about
the application windows! When I've got an application that I'm working in
open on the left side and the application I have open ont he right side does
something it makes the task bar pop up and highlight orange. THIS IS
ANNOYING and turning it off won't fix it because I NEED THE APPLICATIONS
OPEN! I work in them!

Bob I said:
If you DON'T WANT the IM PROGRAM responding TURN IT to DND for crying
out loud! Sheesh. Seems you don't have the ability to focus on the task
at hand much less "multitask". Learn to use/set the features properly.
You don't gouge the ringer out of the phone with a screwdriver to make
it stop ringing do you?!?!? And by the way dual monitors does NOT
increase the number of programs you can run. It merely increases the
"desktop screen area" as would using a larger monitor. Good day.

Don't know if this will do what you want but have you tried the edit on
Kelly's site, line 66, "Prevent Programs from Stealing Focus"?

Hello,
I realise the message I have replied to dates back to 2004 or a lon
time ago anyway.

I have a problem similar to what "DRUAngell" was trying to sort out...

Namely...that my task bar goes out of autohide due to applicatio
buttons on the taskbar flashing or something along those lines.

I've tried now many ways to stop this... but it is persistent. I've no
got it to the point where the taskbar does not remain permanently out o
the screen, but it still pops out and sits there for perhaps 20 seconds
It will do this even when no particular application needs my attention
Actually even while I am writing this message here in firefox th
taskbar pops out every now and then, with the Firefox butto
highlighted, sits there for perhaps 20 secs and goes away again.
The same thing happens with whatever app I am working in at th
time...Outlook, Word, etc. The button of that app will be highlighte
and make the taskbar sit there.

I'd really like to get rid of this behaviour. I've tried all th
suggestions on http://www.mcse.ms/message1511190.html and also in thi
thread.

Does any one have any suggestions? I'd greatly appreciate it.

With thanks,

Jonathan
Well, actually I already had that turned on. The only 2 option

this off
