Option for New Mail Desktop Alert to remain visible until I close

Would like the option for New Mail Desktop Alert to remain visible until I
close it. It is visible for 30 seconds max; so when I look away from my
desktop, I sometime miss it. This prevents me from providing an immediate
response to the sender.

Don't you get an envelope icon in your system tray to alert you to new mail
also? That one's permanent until the mail is read (as long as you tell
Windows not to hide it to collapse the tray)
