Is there an optimum memory configuration for WINxp ?
I'm currently configured with 96 meg.
Any reason to add more memory ?

Take out the existing modules, pay $50 or less for 256 Meg
and see how much better XP performs.

There is no such thing as an optimum that's right for everyone.
What any individual needs for decent performance depends on what
apps he runs.

*Most* people running a range of common business applications
need somewhere between 256 and 512MB, but some, for example those
editing large photographic images, can effectively use
more--sometimes *much* more.

But 96MB is much too little for decent performance for almost
anyone doing more than running solitaire. I wouldn't recommend
that anyone run XP with less than 256MB.

96 meg will barely get Win XP off the ground.

I said "96MB is much too little for decent performance for almost

with me? Why are you replying to me, saying essentially the same
thing I did?

Thanks so much for your informaive reply.
It sounds like 256meg is a good number to shoot for.

And to think my first computer ( Radio Shack TRS-80 )
came with 16K of memory. ;o)

96 is nowhere near enough. Even the recommended 128 is too low. I
would regard 192 as the real minimum, and 256 a sensible basic start.
Many people who like loading everything in sight several times over will
say 512 minimum - once one is up above there I start thinking people are
self-justifying their extravagance
